St George Social Day

Seeing that some of the lucky Members were going to Narooma, a few others decided not to be left out and organise a Club social.

Meeting at Sylvania Boat ramp at 8am, 11 keen spearos headed off with 3 electing to do a shore dive at Boat Harbour. We headed out into the Bay for a quick look at a favourite spot with no luck, though I found a really good sand anchor with a good bit of chain wedged in some rocks. Retrieving it was another story. We then headed up the coast to try our luck . Anchoring up near Long Bay. All the boys jumped in the water with a million Yellowtail in attendance, we thought something must be around so I did a quick duck dive just as the baitfish banked up in a nice straight wall, then the Kingies came in, the bigger ones would not come in to close but I whacked a nice one that wanted to wrap me around the bottom but I held him off, though the bugger pulled me under a few times, Just when I thought I was winning and with help on the way to put another spear in him, he decided to give himself a deep water release GRRRRRRR, the other boys were seeing them but they were not coming in either, tried to burley, only managed to get the Bonito feeding, got one of those instead.

Rob finally got a Kingy, while the rest of the boys were just enjoying the conditions and getting a few fish for the table.

A few "DOLPHINS" come in to say hello, the two leg variety in a tinny, so after a quick gooday to Simon and the lads we headed of to one more spot then back to the ramp for a 1 o’clock finish.

After pulling the boats out all the boys stood around comparing the fish and having a yarn on what was taken, seen and lost. One of the young guys speared a Flattie only to have a much bigger one take off that was lying beside it. Bet this will be burned in the memory .

It seemed Craig and the boys had a great day out a Boar Harbour doing a shore dive for they had the best catch on the day. Just as well as his fish stocks in the freezer were totally depleted. It certainly was no Ulladulla but we still enjoyed getting in the  water and enjoying the day. Taking home a great feed of fish.

I had a couple of the drummer on the Monday, filleted, skinned, cut into pieces and done in beer batter. Our friends who came over said it was fantastic. So that made it even more enjoyable to share the spoils.

Craig with a couple of nice fish for the day.

This is what it's about, Michael Nicholson and William "Do you want me to flex" Grant with a nice feed to take home for the table.
