Competition Rules

There are now 3 separate comps within St George.

The main comp is the "Club Score". This consists of Alliman scores and
Championship scores (Sundays only). It formally used to also include some
social scores but these have now been removed. There are Grade and Age sub
categories within this comp. Our "Club Champion" comes from this score.

In the case of a championship holding the Saturday of a comp but having to
cancel the Sunday, Saturday’s score does NOT substitute for the cancelled
Sunday as far as our club score is concerned.

Special Note: As agreed when the new system was voted on Heaviest Fish
and Most Meritorious Fish can now come from any competition where a score
sheet is completed, including sanctioned socials. i.e: you cannot submit a
fish caught outside competition. It must appear on a completed score sheet
for these awards.

"Fish of the Year" These perpetual trophies are awarded for the best fish in
10 different species. (We were to introduce a few more species in 2008 but
nothing was formalized and the number remains at 10). These fish can be
caught any where anytime in or out of competition. You must submit a photo
of the fish on a reasonable set of scales to Laurie either by email or post
to qualify. Just ringing up and saying I caught the fish doesn’t cut it.

"Social Score" Introduced in 2008 this consists pre scheduled social days
out decided upon at the beginning of the year. (They appear on the calendar)
also extra social days decided during the year at club meetings
not "at the drop of a hat". There are no grades or age categories. There is
no additional heaviest fish or most meritorious fish award. It is simply
the first 10 places. This new section was introduced to encourage new divers
and give experienced divers a chance to pass on their knowledge and
experience to new up coming divers in a non competitive
environment (as far as the experienced guys are concerned). If the older
guys want to compete in this comp that also is not a problem. Many on the
older guys have lost interest in the Alliman and if they choose to compete
in this category, that’s fine. It just provides a more relaxed venue for those
who just want a good day out spearfishing without all the drama that always

seems to follow the "Alliman".
